Still not convinced? Here is my personal story of traveling with my wife and daughter on our annual European bicycle tours. Neither my wife nor my daughter are avid cyclists. We started taking our daughter to Europe when she was five, and even though cycling was not one of her interests at the time, she had a blast. We have taken a family bicycle tour every year since then.
We went on Taste of Provence bicycle tour in France since my wife had always wanted to visit there. Since I am a halfway decent cyclist, I figured I could always do the pedaling for my daughter while she looked at the scenery from the trailer bike. We stopped at most of the play grounds along the way and usually rode about 15 mile before she asked "dad, does the next hotel have a pool?" Then we would hitch a ride in the van and mom would finish the regular route. She was the only child on the tour, but all of the guests were happy to have her along and by the end of the tour she had made a drawing for everyone on the tour.
When my daughter was six we joined the Meandering Mosel Valley bicycle tour in Germany and were fortunate to have three other families that joined the tour as well. br>
I brought along a few two-way radios and the kids were gabbing from the back of their trailer bikes all day long!
The next year we were contacted by one of the other families from this trip who said they had so much fun they wanted to go on another bike tour and would love it if we would come along. We now travel with this family every year. Their daughter and our daughter have become great friends and even though they live in another part of the country, when they get together it is as though they were never apart. The kids are not always interested in the same things as the adults, being early teenagers now, but when they tire of cycling they hop in the van and head to the next town to check out the shops or go swimming.
